Site Marketing

Ok, so your site is done, your site is being hosted on the Internet.  Now you can forget about it and focus back on your 'brink and motor' business right?  WRONG!

Nothing can be further from the truth!  If this is what you want to do, then you should seriously reconsider purchasing a site at all.  It is simply a waste of your advertising investment if you do not attempt to benefit from your new web site.

What you need to do...      Determine what type of site visitor you desire and expect to attract.  Typically, a business web site's traffic falls into one of two categories:

1) Your current, existing customers, coming to your site to either purchase more products, learn about your business (hours, payment options, specials, etc.., then you do not have much advertising or marketing to do, but you still have a little work to do.  You need to:

-

Display your web site address on your windows/doors/counters.

-

Display it on your outdoor signage (if possible)

-

Print it on your business cards, letterhead, and sales receipts.

-

IMPORTANT!!  Display it on any print advertising you do.

-

Optionally, submit your site to search engines to make it easier for your customers to quickly find your site.  This process is called Search Engine Optimization (SEO).  We recommend this service provider, who can save you countless hours of time for a small fee.

I realize that you may be thinking that the above advice is obvious, but I think you may be shocked to learn just how few business owners actually 'get around' to doing the above.   A recent study of businesses doing under 10M year in revenue showed that less than 30% could actually state that they managed to get the five action items above done.   Over 10M, it was over 80%.

or...

2) New customer, new traffic that does not necessarily already know your business or website.  They will come to purchase products/services for the first time.

It is especially important to incorporate your web site with your other advertising methods.  Your Internet web site allows you to present fully interactive, DETAILED, information for your prospective customers.   Use your print advertising to drive your prospects to your web site, where they can answer basic questions (a good use for a Frequently Asked Questions page, FAQ), then you do have to put together a serious Marketing Plan, just like any other business, if you want to attract customers then you need to let them know you exist.

-

Configure your pages with appropriate meta tags, etc.. Included with our services.

-

Submit your site information to the hundreds of free search engines/ portals.  Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the term used for this process.  You can use a service if you plan to do a cursory job a couple times.  If you are serious about the process, then it should be an on-going job.  A knowledgeable person should invest 3-8 hours each month into this process.  You can have someone do this in-house, or you can contract us to manage this process for you.

-

Decide if you want to submit your site information to the major search portals that are not free, but have a charge.  Example; Yahoo is $295.

-

Decide if you would like to pay (become a sponsor link) to have your site display at the top of major search engines when the surfers enter specific key words into the search bar.  This is often billed on a 'pay-per-click' basis, where your credit card is charged the amount you bid each time someone clicks through to your web site.  The amount you bid determines your ranking on the results list... if you bid 25 cents, and I bid 26 cents, my listing would display above your listing.
